Our first issue of the 2016 BCC Quarterly is published in loving memory of one of our founders, Rachel Cheetham Moro. Rachel died of metastatic breast cancer on February 6th, 2012.
This issue contains an article by Rachel’s mother-in-law Felicia Moro, a classic post from Rachel’s blog “The Cancer Culture Chronicles,” and a review by BCC member Lani Horn of an edited book of Rachel’s blog posts prepared by BCC founding member Sarah Horton and Rachel’s mother, Mandy Cheetham.
You’ll find an article I published on Broadly, a channel on VICE, about the NFL’s philanthropic contributions. To get a sense of the league’s priorities, I analyzed data on the NFL Foundation—the 501(c)(3) non-profit that officially represents the philanthropic mission of the league’s 32 clubs. Turns out that the NFL’s charitiable activities primarily serve NFL programming, and not cancer research.
In a research brief, you’ll read what BCC member Edyta Zierkiewicz and her colleague Emilia Mazurek learned in their research about how spouses in Poland cope with a breast cancer diagnosis and what kinds of support they provide.
Our spotlights of key breast cancer groups and what we love about them are ongoing. You’ll find the cumulative list on our website.
Thank you for reading, and for your continued support of this work.
Sincerely,
Gayle Sulik, PhD (Founder and Principal Investigator)
