Selling Sickness 2013: People before Profits will bring together academic medical reformers, consumer activists, and health journalists to examine the current scope of disease mongering and to develop strategies and coalitions for change. Topics will include misleading marketing, journalistic standards, over-treatment, over-diagnosis, whistleblowers, new roles for advocates, pharmacovigilance, clinical trials, activist narratives, new conflict of interest areas, evidence-based screening, igniting citizen outrage, and more. We will have panels, workshops, a unique Good News Exhibit Hall, and BOOKTIVISM training. Students and young activists are welcome! Website:

Register early and save during the Early-bird Registration period, ending October 31, 2012. Regular registration fees will be in effect from November 1, 2012 until February 6, 2013. On-site fees will be in effect after that time.

  • Students  – $100 with proof

Starting at 5PM Wednesday, February 20, 2013, we will open our doors at the Hyatt for attendees to register on-site, or pick up registration materials, including name badges, programs and maps. Registration will be available through Friday noon.

Conference sessions will begin on Thursday morning February 21 at 8:30 AM.
