NBCC Action Alert - Keep Funding the DOD Breast Cancer Research Program

The National Breast Cancer Coalition urges breast cancer advocates to contact our representatives to Support the DOD Breast Cancer Research Program.
Congress must appropriate money in order for the DOD BCRP to maintain funding. The first step in the process is for the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee to appropriate funding. Representatives Gerlach (R-PA), McGovern (D-MA), King (R-NY), and Hastings (D-FL) are circulating a Dear Colleague Letter, asking House Members to sign a letter to the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee leadership, supporting level funding for the program.

NBCC is asking you and all members of your networks to contact your Representatives to urge them to sign this letter.  The deadline is Monday, March 31, at noon.

Your message to your Representative can be simple:

I urge you to sign the letter to Defense Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Frelinghuysen and Ranking Member Visclosky calling for $120 million—level funding—for the DOD peer-reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program for FY 2015.

If your Representative agrees to sign the letter, her or his staff should email one of the following staffers of the letter sponsors to make it happen:

  • Dante Cutrona in Representative Jim Gerlach’s office, or
  • Jennifer Chandler in Representative Jim McGovern’s office.

Email NBCC to let them know that your Representative has agreed to sign the letter or if you have any questions. And if a Representative has questions you can’t answer, let NBCC know that too and they will follow-up.
