FREE SCREENING of the documentary Pink Ribbons, Inc.
October is the month of breast cancer awareness. Countless women and men, old and young, walk, bike, climb and shop pink ribbon products in the name of raising awareness and finding a cure.
But what does awareness really mean? Where does our money go? And have we achieved any significant improvement in diagnosis, treatment and cure? How do we define medical progress? Are treatments (surgery, chemical and radiation therapy) prolonging life at the expense of quality of life? How does the precautionary principle apply to breast cancer treatment, research and prevention policies? Perhaps more important of all, why are these questions not taken seriously by the breast cancer industry? These are some of the questions that the film aims to raise.
We will be having a group discussion with Dr Grazia de Michele from the Breast Cancer Consortium and author of the Italian blog Le Amazzoni Furiose.
